Across the board, UA alums have risen to become some of the country’s top leaders and changemakers.
Transformative Leadership Experiences
UA’s commitment to cultivating great leaders and public servants has led to innovative and renowned programs like the Blackburn Institute and Shelby Scholars. The School of Leadership and Policy will expand UA’s capacity to offer more leadership opportunities that engage students in public service and prepare them to be future leaders in the state, the nation and on a global level.
Exceptional Internship Opportunity
A select group of students from The University of Alabama System (including UA, UAB and UAH) are chosen each year for the Capitol Scholars Program, an immersive summer internship opportunity in Washington, D.C. for students planning a career in government.
Through intensive internships in Congress and with government affairs agencies around D.C., students develop leadership skills while learning about policy research, analysis and advocacy. As a bonus, students develop a network of policy experts, government officials and UA System alumni, all invaluable in their future careers.

Elite National Scholar Awards
The unmatched resources and opportunities at UA have empowered students to achieve and excel at the highest levels among all college and university students in the U.S. — going toe-to-toe with students from Top 10 U.S. academic institutions, including Ivy League schools, and coming out on top.
Our students have earned some of the most prestigious and coveted national scholarship awards in the areas of leadership and policy. In fact, UA has produced:
